Heat. Heat surrounded Touma in a dense, suffocating cocoon. The only thing keeping him clinging onto consciousness was the feeling or something tugging and scratching at the skin on his back.

With a grunt, he tried to roll over to see what that something was, and caught a brief glimpse of wings taking off into the air through vision that was grainy and blurred, as if he were viewing the world through a bad camera. The sky above was blue, and more vultures were circling overhead.

His skin was rough and parched. He had no recollection of how he’d ended up in this desert, or how long he’d been suffering under the rays of its sun. But one thing was for certain - he wasn’t in Canada anymore.

His body felt strange, heavy. He tried to clear his vision, but rubbing his eyes did nothing to help.

And then he saw his hand. A hand that was made entirely of metal. His legs, too. Even through the bad quality of his vision he could make out scars all over his body, as if someone had simply decided to hack him apart and rebuild him.

What the hell had happened?

Ms Pauling was a busy woman.

She was always busy.

There was always paperwork to be done, people to be killed and bodies to be discarded. Her hands were caked with blood and she loved it.

She loved what she did because it was thrilling. It was dangerous, but most importantly, it was for Her.

She had faith in the Administrator. If she told her to jump, she'd ask how high.

It would all be worth it, she knew this deep down.

She was to check in on the Mercs, all the while keeping her involvement with both sides a secret. Not from everyone, the Engineers knew more than anyone else. But they kept their mouths shut.

Well, she worried more about the Blu Engineer than the Red. Dell knew his role and played it well.

Pauling saw him as a friend of sorts in the way fellow employees may when they were partners in a project known only to them.

Mac was defiant in his own quiet ways.

Untrusting.

He disliked her but he was polite and ultimately did was asked of him, albeit with an air of resentment.

Surely, the Administrator didn't really need two Engineers? And from the same family?

She felt some sort of pity for him, had offered him an olive branch in the form of a map showing all the payphones in New Mexico and which ones had the least amount of activity.

He had taken it, albeit warily. She has offered him a link to something he missed the most. That made him vulnerable.

His family.

And that was how things stood between them.

She wondered if she would ever be on decent standing with him, but if she only had Dell to rely on, then that was more than fine. He was the link that made Mac work more obediently with Pauling.

Mac trusted Dell and Dell was the better engineer and Merc.

As she drove across the desert, a flash of something shiny and the presence of vultures overhead caught her attention.

She was on a tight schedule..but...this could be important.

She changed course and pulled up closer to where this mystery lay. Parking her car a safe distance away and hidden best she could, she drew her gun and approached carefully.

Fritz sighed, entering with a plate of food. Another missed meal.

Of course. He was busy and couldn't hear him. Fritz could understand falling into the groove of working for hours without knowing how much time had passed. He was pleased to know Dell was taking care of his hearing.

He put the plate on Dells desk and waved a hand in front of him hoping to catch his attention.

" Your dinner. We can't have you passing out." Fritz commented, a sense of whimsy in his otherwise professional voice.

He didn't know if Dell could hear him but bed side manners were an important part of professionalism.

One of the workaholics on the team, it was his duty to ensure everyone was healthy.

This included the other infamous workaholic- their engineer.

Knocking on the door of the tinkerers workshop, he called out to him from the other side.

" Herr Conagher, are you in there?"

The sounds of the circular saw cutting metal coming from the workshop seem to confirm that the man is indeed, inside. Dell Conagher is very much engrossed in the process of building yet another sentry [Now with more gun than ever before]. While he fails to hear Mister Humboldt's call trough the muffling headset, the door to the workshop is open, which means it's fine to come in.

every time anyone that's even slightly critical of C3 calmly writes a post that's longer than 750 words in an attempt to unpack what they feel is not working in the campaign or what's happening in the fandom, there's a rash of its defenders going "why are the haters always writing these long posts all the time, we don't need anyone to be writing novels, why is the post so long. it's so ridiculous that anyone is writing essays."

personally, especially if I was trying to position myself as having intelligent and complex opinions and capable of paying attention to episodes that are five hours long on a weekly basis, I would not admit I thought 1.5k words was dissertation length.

it's especially funny because many of the same people keep stamping their feet that critics never explain their perspectives or stances, then they're mockingly dismissive when doing so doesn't fit into a tweet.

not to make it sound grave, but it's anti-intellectual, it's simplistic. above all: it's juvenile, childish, asking to be treated as a child. wah, so silly anyone could possibly have a meaningful thought that requires enough space it doesn't fit on my phone screen at once.

Fan art of @kianamaiart’s characters from I Don’t Want To Be A Magical Girl! (with glasses, ft misc glasses characters & two IDWTBAMG universe fan characters)

I’ve been following this project from the start so it’s been great seeing interactions between the characters and how the fandom is so excited for it. ^^

I tried to draw the cast from memory and, while Miss seems a little different from canon, at least I got the dark hair roots and strands sticking out lol. But details aside they’re all recognizable! Which means they’re lovely designs that are unique from one another✨

Eclipse’s shades are a combination of his usual eye mask and the shades from this artwork, and Hoshi’s glasses are inspired by this one!🌒⭐️

Designs… (I don’t have a name for her yet but) the pigtails girl’s shapes are a combination of curves pointing downwards and curves pointing upwards. The idea ended up being that she’s on Eclipse and Lady DeVoid’s side so (after reading this post by Kiana about how most of the characters had Aika’s design as the springboard and are designed to complement eachother) I wanted her design to complement those two’s, with some influence from Zira. I like that the strands of hair on her forehead and the shape around them mirror both Zira’s hair and DeVoid’s horns haha. Plus, I was trying to figure out how to design her glasses and they ended up being kind of the inverse of Eclipse’s eye mask, which is very nice. Eclipse and DeVoid seem to be associated with sharp curves and circle shapes; maybe her outfit could be a lot fancier…

As for what her role might be in the story… I dunno, if she works with Eclipse and DeVoid, and Eclipse is all ~theatric and grand~ then maybe she could be like… his assistant… or something? Who knows. Or, I say “observer from afar” so perhaps she actually gets along with Zira well and they’d watch on the sidelines while Aika and Eclipse duke it out…?

Eclipse… Moon… Umbra… man what if I just name the pigtails girl Yueshi (月食, lunar eclipse)(for both the moon motif that Zira and Eclipse have, and the darkness motif that Eclipse and DeVoid have haha)

Shooting star and telescope don’t feel quite right, but with the circular shapes and the lunar eclipse, I could kind of see her having some star trail motifs with her sweater…

I guess Umbra would be the same type of elf (? darkness/concept personified?) as Lady DeVoid but I’m not sure haha. We don’t have much information on DeVoid other than the fact that she is darkness itself and that she lost most of her powers which she can’t remember how to use. Banished by a Star Guardian, revenge, recruiting Eclipse to help spread the darkness particles to destroy the Star Guardian… If she has a similar backstory to MLP:FIM’s Princess Luna then does that mean she was originally Aika’s teammate or something? haha

About Umbra’s hair… (Feel free to correct me for any inaccuracies.) I think from the reference photos I was trying to draw box braids but got so focused on also making the braids look like moon phases that I’m not sure if it’d still be box braids in the end? They seem more like cornrows now, at least for the side ones?

Here are some earlier versions of the OCs! and more rambling about designs

Well, initially I scribbled down Yueshi so I could experiment with values because I was thinking about how light-coloured pants draw the eye too much if the outfit or the top half of the character is darker. (Half way through she ended up looking like a IDWTBAMG character so I tried to match the proportions with Aika’s turnaround.) But I suppose if there’s enough contrast for the upper half (and IDWTBAMG’s stark black design style gives a lot of contrast) then it works out better. I think the combination of making Yueshi’s hair and the top half of her sweater black and the circle shape white worked out okay. Initially she had large round eyes so I tried giving her round glasses too but since she ended up being a fan character in the universe, it was too similar to Aika and Zira.

Umbra’s design kind of popped into my mind today so I tried to scribble it down and experimented with hairstyles. But green and purple are already associated with Zira, and that shade of lavender is more like Eclipse so I guess I’ll fiddle around with her colour scheme more. Maybe there’s not enough of the signature black there, and both could use some more details to match the level of details in the canon designs… (If Yueshi works under DeVoid then she’d probably get a fancy outfit too.) Then again, Umbra is more like Miss in terms of detail so it seems she’d be a background/supporting character or something…🤔

(I can’t seem to escape the puffy sleeves/cone shape silhouette🤔 Gotta diversify. Also, not sure if it’s ‘cause of the project’s style or if I just really love circles in character design haha)

I understand why people want to use Arabic names for places in Palestine. However, a lot of Hebrew names for those places predate Zionism and have been used continuously for thousands of years. Saying Jersusalem/Yerushalyim instead of Al Quds isn’t necessarily Zionist. There are some places that are exceptions to this. For example, Tel Aviv, Qiryat Shemona, and Eilat are truly modern Hebrew/Israeli inventions.
